This is a step-by-step guide on getting started and installing your internal app on your device with Firebase App Distribution.


For iOS devices

1 - Accept the invitation

As soon as you created your application from your dashboard, you will receive an email from Firebase App Distribution to install your internal application:

  1. On your iOS device where you want to install your app, open the invitation link in your email in Safari (this is required in order to properly install the Firebase profile and register your device in Step 2 below).
  2. Scroll down and when prompted, Sign in with Google and accept the invitation.

Once you accept an invitation, you're given access to install the test app. You also receive build notification emails from Firebase when the app's developer distributes a new build and includes you as a tester.

2 - Install the Firebase profile

Installing the Firebase profile (in other words, the Firebase App Distribution) will enable you to access all of your internal apps in one place, update them and install them whenever you want.

  1. When prompted, download the Firebase profile.
  2. Follow the instruction to install the profile in the Settings app.

Once you installed the profile the App Distribution application should appear on your wallpaper.

3 - Install the internal app

In the Firebase App Distribution, you will see the internal apps you have access to, select the app you want to install, and tap Download. Apps you install through App Distribution are automatically added to your device's home screen.

  1. Install your desired internal app.
  2. After downloading, you can open your app. That's it, you are all set now 🎉

For Android devices

1 - Accept the invitation

  1. On your android device where you want to install your app, open the invitation in your email.
  2. Scroll down and when prompted, Sign in with Google and accept the invitation to test the app.

2 - Download Firebase App Distribution

If you haven't already, download the Firebase App Distribution app, which lets you install and access all your test apps in one place.

  1. From the in-browser prompt that appears after you accept the invite, download the Firebase App Distribution application.
  2. Click the .apk file you just downloaded to install the Firebase App Distribution application on your device.

<aside> ⚠️ You may get an alert that the app you are trying to download may harm your device, don't worry, everything is safe.

If this is your first time installing Firebase App Distribution, you'll need to sign into the app with the same Google account you used to accept the invitation.

3 - Download your internal app

In the Firebase App Distribution, you will see the internal apps you have access to, select the app you want to install, and tap Download. Apps you install through App Distribution are automatically added to your device's home screen.

  1. Install your desired internal app.
  2. After downloading, you can open your app. That's it, you are all set now 🎉
